My
thoughts this week were initially prompted by Rachel's
letter (below), and to that end I think it is accurate to
say that most of us seem to have begun the gender discovery
journey down the same path. That first day we discover
that there are others in the world just like us it is
indeed a very good day: we're not alone! But in large
numbers, it also becomes apparent that
"they" are sometimes not the "same" as
me. Like most things in life, there are varieties to
everything; even transgender people. So while the
mainstream can barely comprehend us as a single group, it
would scare the hell of of them to know that there are
many branches to the gender tree. But how can one
know who they are or where they belong? First, it is
important to understand that you don't have to
"belong" anywhere, and you don't have to
"be" any certain way. Unfortunately, most
people, both in and outside the community get lost if he
drawing isn't outlined. My own journey has taken me from
one end of the spectrum to the other, and as hard as the
discovery part was, it is the knowing that has proved more
difficult. More

Letters
To The Editor:
First, I don't ever plan
on surgery. I have finally graduated to driving around
dressed up, but that is as far as I have gone. This,
as well as all other events that have led up to this
level have been exhilarating, but is always fleeting.
I am concerned that when I do step out into public,
that too will not be enough. Is this a common
problem, or do others find the satisfaction they
desire?
Dressing up is very sexually "exciting", and
I am afraid of the embarrassment. How do others handle
it? -- Rachel
Dear Rachel, The embarrassment
usually subsides in time, and unless you are a pure
fetishist, as you begin to evolve and explore your inner
feelings, I think the sexual excitement part will fade
as well. There are many plateaus at which you may
find your own comfort level, but many
people evolve beyond the sexual drive and find it
replaced with an enjoyment of just "being." As
far as "handling it?" One day at a time
Rachel, one day at a time. -- Brianna
