I Tell You This

By Brianna Austin

Life brings love and love brings life
Yet with down cast eyes we are kicked to the side
Not me, I stare them down

And amidst their disbelief, my head held high, I disallow..
For any sister to be disrespected
By day you joke & jeer while you wonder why we’re so affected
And then by night we're the source for your quick erection

I resist any man or woman to decide who I can be
Even as they frown my spirit runs free
I dance to my own drummer, and the more of us that step in stride...
the louder gets our thunder
So go ahead force us into the light of day, but I warn you - you'll be frightened by our number

Policeman, doctors, politicians and more….
Bankers, professors who knows maybe even Al Gore

Ignorance & hypocrisy looms large all around us
Life is to damn short why all the fuss
We don’t hurt, mame or harm
We wear skirts & Heels and exude tolerance and charm

Let us be to live - even without your understanding
For there is danger when you encourage hate & branding

I tell you this with love from my heart
this is not a smart battle to start
transgender people are a docile creature who lives by night,
But if provoked could rise in numbers ….. and show our commanding might
